Wild Hydrogen announces plans for demonstrator site in Eastington to support net-zero innovation
Wild Hydrogen, a leading clean energy company, has announced plans to establish a demonstrator site at Meadow Mill, Eastington, to advance its pioneering carbon-negative hydrogen and biomethane technology.
Founded by a team from Gloucestershire, Wild Hydrogen is committed to helping industries transition away from fossil fuels with scalable, low-emission solutions. The company’s technology enables the production of clean molecules from organic materials, while capturing carbon dioxide to further reduce emissions, supporting a circular economy approach.
A key step in decarbonising industry and agriculture
As part of its next phase of development, Wild Hydrogen will shortly be submitting a Screening Request to Stroud District Council for further development at the site within Eastington Trading Estate. The proposed development includes both prospective and retrospective consent for works at Unit 12, supporting ongoing research, design, manufacturing, and testing of hydrogen and biomethane generators. This will involve the installation of hydrogen and biomethane generation equipment, siting of single-storey cabins, construction of boundary walls, fencing, gates, and associated external works.
This Screening Request is the first step in the planning process, which will determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment is required for the planning application submission.
Unlike large-scale hydrogen production plants, this demonstrator facility is designed for small-scale testing and showcasing of Wild Hydrogen’s innovations to industry partners, policymakers, and researchers.
What this means for the local community
Wild Hydrogen is dedicated to ensuring that its breakthrough technology supports not only global decarbonisation efforts but also brings local benefits. The Meadow Mill site will:
- Operate with minimal impact, using a low-emission, quiet process within an existing industrial area.
- Support local agriculture, exploring how excess heat and captured carbon dioxide can be repurposed to enhance greenhouse production and regenerative farming.
- Contribute to Gloucestershire’s net-zero ambitions, positioning the county as a leader in clean energy innovation.
Engaging with the community
Wild Hydrogen recognises the importance of open communication with local residents and stakeholders. The company will be hosting community events in the coming months to provide more information, answer questions, and discuss the project’s role in the region’s sustainable future.
“As a team from Cheltenham, Gloucester, and the surrounding areas, we are deeply invested in this journey to net zero and the positive impact our technology could have on Gloucestershire. This project is a crucial step in decarbonising key sectors, and we look forward to engaging with the local community as we move forward.”
