OUR STORY
An idea started over coffee
Wild Hydrogen began in 2022 as a conversation between Mark, James and John at their local coffee spot. All three shared the same unease about the pace of climate action and a belief that engineering could deliver something better. The original aim was simple but ambitious: to create genuinely carbon-negative hydrogen. Mark had been developing the core concept behind RiPR, and together they decided it was time to turn that idea into a company.
After much prototype development and an unreasonable amount of caffeine, the technology was both proven and protected. Working with Cranfield University, the team realised that RiPR could do far more than produce hydrogen. By adjusting the operating conditions inside the reactor, they could tune the system to favour biomethane as well as hydrogen, while also generating biochar and capturing carbon dioxide.
In just three years, the team advanced RiPR to Technology Readiness Level 6, demonstrating its performance with real feedstocks and validating it under operational conditions. The story has moved quickly from there. Wild Hydrogen is now advancing its pilot plant and preparing for full-scale commercial deployment, proving that a viable, sustainable pathway to negative-emission fuel is not just possible but firmly within reach.
Meet the Wild Hydrogen team
We’re passionate about creating a world where fuel consumption solves climate change, so we have recruited some of the brightest scientists and engineers to help us achieve this.

The Wild Hydrogen journey so far
The beginning
Mark, James and John met at their local coffee shop, united in their passion to tackle climate change.
Wild Hydrogen founded
Together, they founded Wild Hydrogen based on an idea that Mark had been musing on for many years.
Millie prototype
Millie was our first working prototype. It simply provided the proof of concept we needed.
Nano prototype
Our next step was Nano, which was similar in size to Millie but allowed us to begin to target specific performance.
Micro prototype
Taking a big step forward, Micro was substantially larger than its predecessors.
Mini prototype
Our largest prototype to date, Mini is the final step before we begin work on a commercial demonstrator.
Third seed round
Aimed to raise £6 million in our third seed round.
Commercial demonstrator site acquired
Acquired our site in Gloucestershire; the next step is to achieve full planning permission.
Micro V2.0 is live
We’ve made significant upgrades to our Micro prototype, enhancing its capacity, automation, and safety features.
Third seed round
Aimed to raise £6 million in our third seed round.
Clean Super Power Award
Recognised as the winner of the prestigious Clean Superpower: Net Zero Award at the SETsquared Innovation Showcase
Partnerships with industrials
Partnership secured with Wales & West Utilities and SUEZ UK to explore the scale-up and deployment of our RiPR technology.
